Cafgu killed in Compostela Valley clash – Army

DAVAO CITY – A member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) was killed, while a soldier of 60th Infantry Battalion of the Army was wounded after members of the New People’s Army reportedly fired at them in Barangay Aguinaldo, Laak, Compostela Valley Province on Sunday morning.

The Army identified the casualties as CAA Intowa Saddam and Private First Class Rodelo Cahapon. Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Gubat, spokesperson of the Army’s Eastern Mindanao Command said the incident happened at 8:55 am on Sunday. Gubat said they recovered one AK-47 rifle and three backpacks from the area after a 30-minute firefight.

Gubat said the wounded soldier was brought to Tagum Doctor’s Hospital, while Saddam was brought to Escreba Funeral Homes in Maniki, Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

“According to civilians, there were wounded NPA members who managed to escape after the firefight,” said Gubat. He said their pursuit operations are ongoing.
