Davao City ready to host Mindanao Exporters Expo

DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (Philexport) from Mindanao chapter will be mounting the Mindanao Exporters Congress and Trade Expo on July 23 – 25 at the SMX Convention Center here.

The three-day event will be spearheaded by several local exporters, manufacturers and businessmen with their theme, “Integrating the Mindanao SMEs in the global Value Chain”.

Ferdinand Maranon, the President of Philexport Region XI said that they have invited several resource speakers and guests from different chambers of commerce, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), other private and government agency partners, and representatives from Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asean Growth Area.

“This year’s congress will highlight several technology successes and new developments in marketing and value-adding opportunities for various export commodities,” he said.

He also added that the event will highlight different Mindanao commodities such as bananas, cacao, coconut, coffee, dried mango, fresh pineapple and other fruit products and processed food.

“We also invited speakers and guests from the cacao, coconut, and rubber industry to share their success stories in the global value chain,” he added.

The event will also focus on promoting the local enterprises and to teach them techniques on exporting.

Maranon also added that the event will highlight “today’s modern technology contribution to the export industry’s overall growth by bridging the supply and demand gap.”

“The event will also launch activities which include putting up of exhibits, technology innovations for export businesses, plenary and business matching sessions,” he added.

Edwin Sotto, the executive director of Philexport Region XI said that through having this expo, the export industry, most especially the agricultural industry would have a big boost to the economy.

“If we make a full use of our lands, the farmers would be given ample amount of production which would result to bigger production, and as a result, our economy would grow,” he said.

Maranon added that the new technological advancement in processing products for export will help bridge the gap between the supply and demand.

Around 300 exporter members of the Philexport chapters in Mindanao will join the said three-day event. (Mark Anthony M. Duran/davaotoday.com)
