Davao Light implements rotating power outages, says power supply insufficient

May. 13, 2015

DAVAO CITY – Davao Light and Power Company started implementing a maximum of one-hour rotating power interruptions Monday (May 11) after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) imposed a load curtailment due to about 200MW deficiency in the entire Mindanao grid.

In a statement on Tuesday, DLPC said last May 10, it received an advice from the NGCP of the much reduced capabilities of NPC’s Agus 6 hydropower plant and the very low water inflow of Pulangi hydropower plant.

“Moreover, as announced recently, the 1-unit of STEAG coal-fired power plant is still offline as it undergoes an emergency shutdown, which is expected to be online by May 13,” DLPC said.

Rossano Luga, AVP for Reputation Enhancement. said DLPC will optimize standby diesel plant in Bajada and the Hedcor Sibulan and Talomo Hydropower plants to “keep service interruptions at the least possible time or at all avoid disruptions.”

“It will also optimize power supply from Therma Marine Inc.’ s power barges and activate its Interruptible Load Program so that available power may be utilized by the smaller residential and commercial customers,” he said.
