DAVAO CITY – The Davao Regional Hospital in Apokon, Tagum City is now Davao Regional Medical Center.

President Benigno Aquino III signed on Wednesday Republic Act No. 10678, which levels up DRH status to a medical center.

In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch, Davao del Norte 1st District Congressman Antonio Rafael G. del Rosario said the hospital’s bed-capacity increased from 200 to 600.

Del Rosario  said his proposed House Bill 67, which seeks to level up the regional hospital into a medical center, was filed in the House of Representatives in July 2013 and that  the House approved it a year after.

Davao Regional Hospital medical center chief Dr.  Romulo Busuego said they are expecting an increase of about 30 percent from the current P52 million budget allocation of the hospital for operating expenses.

Busuego said DRH, with only 200-bed capacity, serves around 500 patients.

He said the medical center will also handle specialized medical services or tertiary medical cases with expert doctors and state-of-the-art equipment.(davaotoday.com)
