Disaster agency, Pag-asa assure timely warnings for Typhoon Chedeng

Mar. 31, 2015

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) will issue timely warnings as the government anticipate the entry of Typhoon Chedeng into the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday, a Palace official has said.

Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said on Tuesday that the NDRRMC “has already informed all the departments and agencies involved about the incoming storm.”

He said the Department of Social Welfare and Development is also preparing for the prepositioning of relief goods to local government agencies.

Pagasa said Typhoon Chedeng is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday.

‘Chedeng’ was spotted on Monday 2,240 kilometers (km) east of Mindanao and was packing maximum sustained winds of 140 km per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph. The typhoon was moving west at 23 kph.

The effects of the typhoon will not be immediately felt once it enters the PAR, Pagasa said, adding that rains may be felt in parts of Luzon and Visayas starting next week.
