DSWD releases over 160K food packs

DAVAO CITY — A total of 160,916 family food packs were distributed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to families situated in areas hit by El Niňo.

Mercedita P. Jabagat, regional chief of DSWD said 86,314 families from 12 municipalities and two cities in the region will benefit from the food packs.

DSWD records show that recipient areas are Sta. Cruz, Malalag, Matanao, Magsaysay, Don Marcelino, Jose Abad Santos, Malita, Sta. Maria, Davao City, Carmen, Kapalong, Talaingod, Mati City and Baganga.

The DSWD disaster response unit revealed that the food packs delivered cost P 56,351,966.

“Apart from the food packs, as early as first quarter this year, we already implemented the Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation program to soften the impact of El Niňo to the most vulnerable families,” Jabagat said, adding that, the DSWD extended P80,2014,589 for the Cash-for-Work program in 15 towns of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental.
