Gov’t urged to indemnify civilian victims in Mamasapano

Feb. 17, 2015

Peace advocates came together in a press conference today to call on the government to indemnify civilian victims and casualties during the Mamasapano encounter.

The panelists include representatives from the progressive Makabayan bloc in Congress and rights advocates who conducted a fact finding mission last February 8.

Gabriela Women’s Representative Luz Ilagan, who spent several days in Maguindanao with the mission, shared witness interviews that reveal the “undeniable hand of covert US operatives in the actual planning, command, and combat operations that targeted Marwan.”

Alleged violations of human rights that the mission documented included actual and attempted extra-judicial killings, forced evacuation, destruction and divestment of property and goods.
