DAVAO CITY – The labor group Associated Labor Unions seeks the approval from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to accredit its labor union-based national political party.

In a statement Tuesday, ALU said the political party named Labor Party of the Philippines was established on December 2014 and aims to bring together its members and supporters “to develop policies and to make communities stronger through collective action and support” on issues affecting the workers.

Alan Tanjusay, chairman of LPP, said that core members of the party intends to field and endors national and local candidates including sectoral representatives in the upcoming elections.

The selected members of the party to run in the election, according to Tanjusay, will “espouse and promote” LPP’s platforms and programs.

He added that once the LPP will be accredited, they are expecting that the party will expand its membership with their partnership with other groups belonging to different sectors in the society. ALU was established in April 1954. (davaotoday.com)
