SM mall hit anew for another ‘lewd’ boys’ shirt

Militant women’s group scores anew Shoe Mart (SM) department store for another “wardrobe malfunction” after a netizen posted a picture of a shirt displayed on the mall’s boys section which allegedly promotes violence against women.

Last year, women rights activists hit SM for selling shirts targeted for young boys with the message, “It’s not rape, it’s a snuggle with a struggle.”

This time, shirts with a printed message that says “I promise I’ll pull out” was again found in the same boys’ section in the department store, and a picture of it by a concerned netizen went viral.

” Has SM’s sense of corporate social responsibility gone so awry that it repeated the trespass of selling merchandise that promotes violence against women and children?” asked Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Emmi De Jesus.

De Jesus said that if the picture is proven true, then the mall management has some explaining to do to women’s groups.

“The play of words may sound like a harmless joke to marketers, but this has a subtle encouragement for young boys to seduce women and subject them to date rape. We believe that major retailers keep their promise to screen merchandise for messages that are harmful to women and foment violence, bullying, vouyerism, unsafe non-consensual sex and other anti-women acts,” De Jesus said.
