KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato, Philippines – The New People’s Army (NPA) has released its captive police officer Wednesday afternoon in a village in Arakan town.

PO3 Maula Tato Ali was turned over to the peace advocacy group Sowing the Seeds of Peace in Mindanao and later brought to the Bishop’s Palace in Kidapawan City for a press conference.

Ali was captured in a checkpoint mounted by the NPA last April 19 in Batobato village, President Roxas town.

In an earlier statement, the National Democratic Front-Southern Mindanao has accepted the recommendation for Ali’s release, citing the result of the investigation which found him not guilty in the cover-up or obstruction of justice of the case of Father Fausto ‘Pops’ Tentorio, the Italian priest who was shot to death in October 2011 in Arakan town.

Ali, according to the NDF, didn’t commit “significant offenses” against the people and the “revolutionary forces.”  (Ace R. Morandante/davaotoday.com)
