DavNor gets P397-M road projects as reward for good governance

May. 04, 2016

TAGUM CITY — The province of Davao del Norte will receive P397-million worth of road projects to beef up its road network.

The provincial government of Davao del Norte will be one of the pilot provinces of Konkreto at Ayos na Lansangan ang Daan Tungo sa Pangkalahatang Kaunlaran (KALSADA) program under the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The amount has already been included in the proposed budget for the program next year which is amounting to P39 billion. The Department of Budget and Management has earmarked around P13.5 billion for KALSADA projects.

The program is an offshoot of the Provincial Road Management Facility funded by the Australian government under the Department of Interior and Local Government, which ended last year.

Davao del Norte is among the pilot provinces of the Kalsada program. A budget of worth P42 million has been allocated for this year’s initial implementation.

Both DBM and DILG have assured Governor Rodolfo del Rosario that the funds will be released directly to the province.

For his part, Del Rosario welcomed this development, saying the fund is a big boost to beef up the development momentum of the province.

“Our pursuit of good governance has given us the key to access this huge amount from the national government,” Del Rosario said.

Del Rosario is among the lead governors who lobbied for the expansion of the PRMF to push for good governance initiatives that enable local governments to perform better in the delivery of basic services. (davaotoday.com)
