US-based Gabriela demands complete vindication of Philippines’s Batasan 6

While GABNet welcomes the Philippines Supreme Court dismissal last Friday, June 1, 2007 of rebellion cases against six progressive congress representatives, the US Based, Philippine- US women?s organization insists that the ruling by itself is not nearly enough. The Philippine Dept of Justice, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, and Philippine de facto president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo must be held accountable.

Batasan 6 to reunite at House on Monday

MANILA, Philippines — Barring any new antics from the Arroyo government, members of the
progressive partylist bloc called Batasan 6 will return and reunite in
the House of Representatives on Monday, the start of the four-day
closing session of the 13th Congress.

SC decision underscores gravity of human rights situation — Ladlad

Following is the statement of Bayan Muna Director Vicente Ladlad, one
of the co-accused in the Batasan 6 rebellion case, over the Supreme
Court decision:

STATEMENT OF VICENTE LADLAD ON THE SUPREME COURT
DECISION JUNKING THE REBELLION CASE AGAINST LEFTISTS

June 2, 2007

As one of the accused in the rebellion case filed by the Department of
Justice, I feel relieved by the Supreme Court decision ordering the
dismissal of the case. The decision underscores the gravity of human
rights violations being committed by the Arroyo government in carrying
out its plan to destroy the Left by the end of her term.
