Day after Philippines elections, Kontra Daya calls on increased public vigilance

MANILA — The watchdog group Kontra Daya called on the public to exercise greater vigilance in the next few days as the canvassing of polls begin. The group said that ?dark forces are working overtime to once again subvert the people?s vote.?

?The elections have been marred by violence, confusion and chaos. These are precisely the conditions favorable for wholesale electoral fraud. Kontra Daya is particularly worried about cases of ballot snatching and failure of elections that have happened in several provinces throughout the country,? said Kontra Daya Convenor Fr. Joe Dizon.

International observers see poverty as major election issue

TONDO, MANILA — “We are going to vote but we are not very optimistic that our lives will be better after the elections. For sure, we will continue to face the threat of demolition after the elections.”

Whoever wins, the people of Tondo are somewhat frustrated that no one is doing enough to stop the intensifying poverty and demolition of urban poor communities in Metro Manila.

Nueva Ecija: Foreign Observers See Irregularities in Canvassing

Cheating is possible every step of the way

NUEVA ECIJA, Philippines — Rev. Larry Emery, spokesperson of the Nueva Ecija Team of the People’s International Observer mission, said the team is worried over the irregularities that it has observed in the canvassing of votes at the Guimba Municipal Hall that may show indications of possible election fraud in the area.
