Pakistan/South Africa: Khalid Mehmood Rashid appears after 18 months of secret detention

Amnesty International today received information from Pakistan sources that Khalid Mehmood Rashid, who disappeared after being handed over by South African government officials to agents of the Pakistan Government on 6 November 2005, appeared before the “Federal Review Board” in the Supreme Court Building in Islamabad on 12 April 2007.

Although the authorities reportedly have been ordered to transfer him to a prison in Rawalpindi and allow him access to his family and medical care, Mr Rashid was still in the custody of the Inter-services Intelligence [ISI] on 16 April.

Philippines: GRP-MILF Peace Talks to Resume After Polls

The stalled peace negotiations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front are expected to resume after the elections.

Assistant Secretary Evelyn Daplas of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said the peace talks, which reached an impasse late last year, would resume ?as soon as possible, maybe within a month.?

The 1st Pulang Bagani Company calls on the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to stop venting its ire on the people of Barangay Manay and Barangay Casilac, Panabo, Davao del Norte in order to deflect attention from the dishonor it has suffered in the NPA raid on the Davao Penal Colony.
