Philippines: Did US Peace Corps Volunteer Slip, Or Was She Murdered?

MANILA, April 18 (PNA) – Government forces on Wednesday morning found the body of United States peace corps volunteer Julia Campbell who had been reported missing since last week in Ifugao province, military officials reported.

Maj. Gen. Rodrigo Maclang, commander of the Army?s 8th Infantry Division, said the Campbell?s body was recovered by Army soldiers participating in an inter-agency effort to search and rescue the American.

PIMENTEL CITES NEED TO CORRECT FLAWS IN ABSENTEE VOTING LAW

Genuine Opposition senatorial candidate Aquilino Pimentel III today cited the need to correct legal flaws in the Overseas Absentee Voting Law that prevent or discourage overseas Filipinos from availing of the right to vote for national government officials of their homeland.

Unless these flaws are rectified, Pimentel said expatriate Filipinos, particularly those who have migrated to the United States, will remain indifferent to the exercise of their voting right.

Greenpeace activists construct ?coal plant? at ADB Headquarters in Philippines

Manila, 18 April 2007?Greenpeace activists today constructed a
four-meter replica of a (smoke-spewing) coal plant at the main entrance
of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) headquarters in Manila.

The Bank has been under heavy criticism for its extensive funding of
fossil fuel projects in Asia which have massively contributed to the
region’s greenhouse gas emissions and abetted dangerous climate change.
The protest came two weeks ahead of the Bank’s Annual Governors Meeting
in Kyoto, birthplace of the Kyoto Protocol, the only legally-binging
global agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
