Army presence halted Lumad school classes

A children’s advocacy group said classes were disrupted as school children were “too afraid to go to school” after military troops “encamped” in their classrooms in a farflung village in Compostela, Compostela Valley province.

Angry banana grower fires gun at picketing workers

A picket by banana workers in Compostela on Monday over unpaid back wages by a banana grower turned violent as the latter fired a warning shot and issued threats against them.
