DAVAO CITY — Lured by the promise of exciting jobs in travel and tourism, thousands of jobseekers trooped this week to a tourism jobs fair in a shopping mall here. Tourism secretary Ace Durano said the fair would create 33,000 jobs for the travel and tourism-related industries nationwide.
Among those who lined up was Peter Premallon, a 21-year-old BS Mathematics graduate from Sultan Kudarat, who has just ended his teaching contract with the Mati Polytechnic College in Davao Oriental in March. ?Private schools are no longer hiring regular teachers now, so, I’m trying my luck,? he said.
He could no longer afford to be choosy, Premallon said. He will look for a job here or abroad. He will even work as clerk for an oil company, if no other option comes his way.
DAVAO CITY — Alchemy of Vision and Lights, a Davao based film and television production company, in tandem with Spikey Fruits Concepts, is bringing to the public a music TV show that aims to showcase original Davao music and talented local artists.
The half-hour weekly show, called Durian Jam, will be shown on Skycable Channel 28. The music show, which is slated to be shown on the third week of April, will feature live performances, music videos, features and other segments that will focus on happenings in Davao.
DAVAO CITY — Diving is a niche market in the Davao region and the area has major potentials.
Department of Tourism assistant regional director Roger Layson in an interview after the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao said they have identified diving sites in the region, athis includes the Ligid and Malipano at the Island Garden City of Samal, one in Sta. Maria, Davao del Sur and another in Mabini, Compostela Valley Province.
Although Layson said that there are several other sites and many potential dive areas? all around the Davao Gulf.

DAVAO CITY — An extremely popular game in the white-sandy beaches of Boracay was formally introduced for the first time in Davao City with some 25 of its pioneering participants at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) football ground, last Sunday, April 2.
Played in full court with seven players each side, the first formal game was held following the conduct of a blitz introduction on the basic rudiments of the play like the one-on-one perfect toss and catch of the rounded, saucer-like plate.
