In bid to revive Eaga, businesses turn to foreign donors

Millions of US dollars in funding are now being earmarked by the Asian Development Bank, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), and the Australian Agency for International Development as governments from the four Eaga countries -- Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines -- try to revive interest in the economic subregion.

BIMP-EAGA investment conference set in Davao

According to the host organizer, the Mindanao Business Council, the first to sign up for the trade exhibit is the Philippine Mining Development Corporation (PMDC) which is looking for joint venture partners for the development of its mining projects in Davao del Norte and Diwalwal in Compostela Valley Province.

Duterte wants child-protection law scrapped

Duterte said teenagers today are different from those in the past and, at 15, he believed a boy already has discernment. He also thought the Juvenile Justice Law, which says children below 15 cannot be held criminally liable, is open to abuse -- a lot of criminals could get away with crime because of this, he said. He called the law myopic and impractical.

Business-name registration in Davao increases

A DTI official said the investment climate this year remains bright considering that many businesses are into expansion projects. ?The fact that these businesses are into opening up of new branches is an indication that the business climate is favorable,? he said.
