The behavior of the Comelec district attorney is not surprising. Certain public officials, thinking that the little authority invested in their official position, also grant them the license to be arrogant. They act like little emperors or empresses over their little dominions or “turfs.”

The NDF said the arrest of Pansoy “reflected the NPA’s consistent compliance to the people’s defense guidelines banning armed politicians and campaigners in revolutionary territories,” while the arrest of Tomas “demonstrated the NPA’s commitment in exacting revolutionary justice against a fascist AFP unit responsible for killing and wounding of children under the pretext of “legitimate encounter” with the NPA.”

Rice, according to Mella, has been proven to be one of the most effective items to win votes, particularly from those who are living below the poverty line.  “Hangga’t gutom ang tao, nabibili ang boto nya sa tatlong kilong bigas lamang (as long as the people are hungry, their votes could be bought for even three kilos of rice),” she said.

Clearly, this practice of bestowing endorsement to electoral candidates reveals a condition of uninformed electorate.  For why should voters base their judgment on the endorsement of someone if they are knowledgeable of the faculties and qualities of the candidates?  Is this not a revelation of the ignorance of the citizenry about the politics of their country or about the competence of the political aspirants?
