CPP urges UNICEF to join probe of killing of 9-year old’s slay by military

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today urged the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as well as other human rights and children’s rights agencies to forge a team to probe the March 31 killing by the Philippine Army of a 9-year old child in a Compostela Valley barrio.

Killed 9-Year-Old Girl Was Not NPA: Karapatan

DAVAO CITY — Karapatan-Southern Mindanao Region lambasted today the 10th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for sowing lies about the killing of a nine-year-old girl, Grecil Buya, claiming that she was a New People?s Army fighter who died in a clash last March 31 in Baragay Kahayag, New Bataan, Compostela Valley Province.

Midsayap Evacuees Remain Traumatized

The clashes in Midsayap, North Cotababto, between government troops and MILF guerrillas may have ended but evacuees still live in fear and uncertainty. Many of them have not been able to rebuild their homes and recover the properties that, according to them, were destroyed and looted by soldiers.

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato — Ten-year-old Abdullah has been having sleepless nights. Early in March, in a village in this town, government soldiers took him at the height of an armed encounter with members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). That experience traumatized him deeply.
