Philippines: Bayan condemns slay attempt on Orly Marcellana

MANILA, Philippines — The husband of slain human rights worker Eden Marcellana almost found himself in the same situation as his wife when bonnet clad men armed with rifles attempted to kill him in Cabuyao, Laguna.

Marcellana is the 8th nominee of partylist group Anakpawis and is also the concurrent secretary general of KASAMA-TK, a militant farmers organization.

Solon slams Palace, AFP’s dismissive attitude to charges that soldiers behind Burgos abduction

MANILA, Philippines — Anakpawis Representative and political detainee Crispin Beltran said that it’s becoming apparent that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)’ top brass want the family and supporters of abducted activist Jay-Jay Burgos to think that their search for Burgos has come to a dead-end. Beltran denounced the AFP and AFP chief of staff Hermogenes Esperon and Executive secretary Eduardo Ermita for their statements that there is no viable proof that the military is behind Burgos’ abduction.
