The conduct of the midterm elections last May 12 in Davao City and other parts of Mindanao was generally well but there were instances of missing names, voter confusion and errors of the new automated counting machines (ACMs).
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is finishing its information dissemination in Davao Region on how to use its new Automated Counting Machines (ACM), as they expressed confidence of its use for the 2025 midterm polls on May 11.
Ibuyan, Apostol, Ungab, and Abella are familiar names in Davao City local politics yet the first three lost their reelection bids as barangay captains, while Abella failed his comeback for barangay captain, in Monday’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. Yet, another Duterte made it into local politics.
"I am just one of the many teachers who are victims of human rights violations and attacks on academic freedom made by (President) Duterte and NTF-ELCAC," said Rosanilla 'Lai' Consad, an assistant principal of San Vicente National High School in Butuan City, and secretary of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers Union Region 13.
