City gov’t allots P2.5M for quake, typhoon victims

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The city council of Davao has approved on Tuesday, December 17, the P2.5 million budget for the victims of typhoon Tisoy in the province of Masbate City and earthquake in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.

The fund will be taken from the 30 percent of the city’s Quick Response Fund that is out of the five percent of its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (Calamity Fund).

According to the ordinance, P1 million will be allocated for Masbate City and the P1.5 million for Magsaysay.

On December 2 and 3, respectively, typhoon Tisoy struck Masbate while Magsaysay was affected by a series of earthquakes in October. Both were placed under state of calamity.

Upon approval of the ordinance, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is set to deliver cash assistance to the affected areas. (Porsha Sera, HCDC intern/davaotoday.com)
