The provincial government of Misamis Oriental is still assessing the extent of the damages from the Christmas rains and floods in some of its cities and towns.

The trough over the weekend due to the low pressure area triggered floods and landslides in Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte, forcing over 150,000 people or 32,000 families in 16 municipalities to evacuate for shelter. The rains came as Typhoon Labuyo (International name Utor) hit the northern part of Luzon and caused thunderstorms including Visayas and Mindanao.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the rains will continue for the next three hours in Davao City, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato.
