DAVAO CITY ? A local court has recalled the warrant of arrest it issued against Alvin Luque, the former secretary-general here of the progressive Bayan, his lawyer said Tuesday night.

The order by Judge Marivic Daray of the Regional Trial Court Branch 14, will allow the prosecution to file within 10 days its comment or opposition to the motion for reconsideration earlier filed by Luque questioning the warrant, Isagani Zarate, Luque?s lawyer, told davaotoday.com.

Farmers Seek Ban on Aerial Spraying of Pesticides

DAVAO CITY — Coconut farmers from seven villages of Baguio and Calinan Districts are demanding the banning of aerial spraying of pesticides on banana plantations in their villages, blaming this method for the decrease in their yield.

Jun Alcomendras, a councilor in barangay Wangan, said at least 60 percent of the coconut farmers in the village have suffered economic loss after their crop rhino beetles attacked their coconut trees.

TAGUM CITY — Constitutional reform will bring out the best in Filipinos.

So claimed Charter Change Advocacy Commission chairman Lito Lorenzana yesterday, Tuesday, as he and three other AdCom members explained their proposed amendments in a symposium here attended by members of grassroots organizations.

“The elements in the proposed Charter change — parliamentary form, federalism and economic liberalization — will bring about a positive change in the way we Filipinos live our daily lives,? Lorenzana said. ?It will bring out the best in business and economic trade. It will bring out the best in political governance.”

Councilor Wants to Ban ?Text Spamming?

DAVAO CITY — Davao City Councilor Pilar Braga is pushing for the banning of ?text spamming? due to mounting complaints from consumers.

Owners or users of mobile phones are complaining that they have been subjected to unsolicited text messages, which consisted of promotional and marketing materials and passed on to consumers without their (consumers) consent, Braga said.
