Davao City – Residents of Butuan City, Bislig City and Hinatuan of Surigao del Sur who had pre-emptively evacuated have all returned to their communities as of Saturday, according to the Caraga Region Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC).
Surigao del Sur Governor Johnny Pimentel told Davao Today that their province did not bear the brunt of the storm and everyone has returned to their communities.
The Caraga RDRRMC said no casualties were reported in Dinagat Island province, where storm signal no. 4 was raised, and also in Surigao del Norte, where storm signal no. 3 was declared.
One casualty was reported in Lingig, Surigao del Sur due to electrocution.
There are still no reports from the RDRRMC on the situation of evacuees in Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte.
Some 6,712 families were evacuated in the five provinces of Caraga, with 915 families in Agusan del Norte, 64 families in Agusan del Sur, 2,518 families in Dinagat Islands, 2,297 in Surigao del Norte and 918 families in Surigao del Sur.
Power outages are still happening in some towns in Surigao del Norte, as well as in Surigao del Sur towns of Tago, Cortes, Lanuza, Carmen, Madrid, Cantilan and Carrascal.
The RDRRMC advised that heavy national road along Butuan City to Talacogon, La Paz and Loreto, Agusan del Sur are are hardly passable by heavy loaded trucks as the heavy rain caused deep potholes on the road.
Communication in Caraga region was not disrupted except in Bacuag, Surigao del Norte.
Meanwhile, the Rural Missionaries of the Philippine Northern Mindanao said some of the 71,000 evacuees in Misamis Oriental had also returned home. (davaotoday.com)
