Bayan Muna Commemorates with the Moro People the Bud Dahu Day
Pushes Congress to Pass HB 1323 or the March 6 declaration of the Bud Dahu Day
In Commemoration of the Moro People’s Fight Against American Colonialism, Bayan Muna asks the House of Representatives to fast track the deliberation of House Bill 1323, entitled “AN ACT DECLARING MARCH 6 OF EVERYDAY AS BUD DAHU DAY IN COMMEMORATION OF THE BANGSAMORO PEOPLE’S RESISTANCE TO FOREIGN OCCUPATION, THEIR CONTINUING QUEST FOR PEACE AND SELF-DETERMINATION, APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.”
The Bud Dahu Day refers to the massacre of more than a thousand Moro men, women and children by American soldiers inside the 50-foot crater of Mount Dahu in Sulu on March 6, 1906.
The Moro people commemorate the Bud Dahu Day as a reminder of their struggle against American occupation and continuing fight for genuine freedom for the BangsaMoro (Moro Nation).
“Bud Dahu Day serves as a constant reminder of how the Moro people bravely and collectively fought transgressors of their land. The bill seeks to include this part not only of the Moro people’s history but the whole Filipino people,” said Congressman Zarate.
Zarate said that the bill also asks the government to hold activities for the Bud Dahu Day. He added that commemoration should not be confined to the Moro people alone.
Bayan Muna also hails the protest rally being held today by Liga ng Kabataang Moro (LKM) in Cotabato City in commemoration of the Bud Dahu Day and calling for the continuing fight against American military occupation in Mindanao, referring to the presence of US troops in Moro areas.
“This is a sign that the youth today has not forgotten the martyrdom of their ancestors and the necessity to continue to fight for their rights. This is a challenge to a government that wants to disregard the lessons of the past and continue to be subservient to US interest,” said Zarate.
Zarate added that the hushed bilateral talks that the Aquino government is having with the US government on the increased rotational presence of US military in the country should not only make the Filipino people be worried but also incensed.
“This is an insult to our history, in violation of our Constitution, and would make the country a stooge of the US government in its so-called pivot to Asia strategy,” said Zarate.
