City officials and artists from Davao City were recently named as science and technology (S&T) ambassadors by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The initial batch of science ambassadors announced recently by DOST Secretary Mario Montejo include Rep. Mario U. Piamonte, senior vice chairperson of the Congressional committee on science and technology and a former official of Davao Association of Colleges and Schools; Councilors Maria Belen Sunga-Acosta and Marissa S. Abella; Joey Ayala and Ronulfo “Popong” Landero, both Davao-based singer-songwriters and environmental advocates.
The S&T ambassadors were awarded with plaques and officially designated with envoy duties during the Science Jam concert recently held at the University of Southeastern Philippines Gymnasium – Obrero Campus, Davao City.
The S&T also asked prominent politicians to become ambassadors and include Senator Paulo Benigno “Bam” Aquino. Montejo said the ambassadors will champion science and technology programs in Davao Regions.
