DAVAO CITY – Members of the underground Moro Resistance and Liberation Organization (MRLO) celebrated their 10th year founding anniversary.
In a statement sent more than a week after the event, Jihad Al Kursi, MRLO spokesperson, said they held their celebration in the hinterlands of a “sonang gerilya” (guerilla zone) somewhere in Central Mindanao last June 16, a few days before Ramadhan.
MRLO, a member of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), was founded on June 20, 2005.
Kursi said the event was “timely” citing that the government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) recently marked the first part of the decommissioning of the MILF forces.
On June 11, the MILF turned-over 55 high-powered firearms, 20 crew-served weapons, and 145 members of their Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF).
“The decommissioning symbolizes the MILF’s abandonment of its revolutionary path to struggle for the right to self-determination and against national oppression by the Aquino administration,” Kursi said.
Kursi said the surrender of arms also symbolizes the removal of their armed forces “that serves as defense for the Moro people against military attacks and plunder of its natural resources found in Mindanao.”
The MRLO said the peace talks between the government and the MILF is “one-sided” favoring only the government’s side. (davaotoday.com)
