DAVAO CITY – The Alliance of Concerned Teachers–Philippines (ACT-Philippines) demanded compensation from
the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for teachers who served as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) and support staff on election day, May 9.
The group protested on May 18 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) for the delayed release of compensation.
According to ACT, as of May 25, many of the teachers nationwide have not been given their honorariums yet. The group said the teachers were also issued ATM cards and cash cards by Comelec, but without funds.
Benjie Valbuena, ACT National Chair said “the BEIs experienced so many difficulties and sacrificed a lot just to make sure that there will be a clean, honest, orderly and peaceful elections.”
He added that there was neither food nor fare provided to the teachers during the time.
Valbuena said that while the winners in the senatorial and partylist posts have not been proclaimed, the compensation for those who “served have not been released yet.”
“Again, this is too much injustice,” Valbuena said.(davaotoday.com)
