DAVAO CITY – More than a month before the Kadayawan Festival, the city government here is reminding visitors and residents of the policy prohibiting the bringing of bags in the events area, a rule that has been implemented since 2013.
In a statement, acting City Mayor Paolo Duterte said law enforcers will strictly impose the ‘no bag’ rule in the events area and asked for the public’s cooperation.
“I would like to ask the public to please cooperate with us, as this is for our security,” he said in a press briefing Thursday.
Duterte said the local government will also implement a ‘no parking’ policy in areas where events are held, particularly along the parade route of the street dance competition and the floral float parade. The Indak-indak sa Kadalanan or street dance competition and the Pamulak sa Kadayawan parade are two of the highlights of the annual thanksgiving celebration celebrated every third week of August.
Duterte said the policies will ensure the smooth flow of the parade and also for security reasons.
Duterte on Thursday has also revealed of a threat of the terror group, Isis in Davao. Although he did not disclose the details of the threat, Duterte said they are still verifying the information.
Davao City Police Director Michael John Dubria said that there is no presence of Isis in Davao City or Davao region. But he warned that there could be threats from groups who are Isis-inspired and those involved in illegal drug trade.
Duterte said: “Whether the information is real or not, whether where there is an actual threat from Isis or none, what is important is that the people are now informed.”
