DAVAO CITY – Presidential son and Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte welcomed the result of the poll of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential persons in the world.

The result of the poll, the young Duterte said, is “an affirmation of how the worldview President Rodrigo Duterte as a leader worthy of respect not just by the Filipino people but by all other peoples from other nations.”

He added that the outcome of the poll, with President Duterte on top compared to other world personalities, is an indication that he has the trademark of a good leader that people from other countries desperately look for.

“We Filipinos should be proud that we have a president that’s admired by other nations,” Paolo Duterte said.

He also urged Filipinos to support the present administration especially its programs and services.

“We must rally behind President Duterte and continue to support him for his mission to make the country more progressive and at par with more developed countries. That is the least we can do for all the sacrifices that he is doing now,” he said.

TIME, in a post on its website on Monday said President Duterte won the 2017 TIME 100 poll after consistently leading the survey.

The magazine said the survey asked readers who should be included in this year’s TIME 100, an annual list of world’s most influential people.

“Duterte received 5% of the total yes votes in the poll, which closed Sunday night. Since taking office in June, Duterte has waged an aggressive war on drugs that has killed more than 8,000 people in the Philippines, according to Reuters. The controversial anti-drug campaign has inspired growing opposition from human rights groups and some political leaders, including Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo,” the TIME Magazine said.

Following President Duterte in the poll were Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Pope Francis, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

Trudeau, Pope Francis, Gates and Zuckerberg got 3 percent of the total “yes” votes, the magazine added.

Vice Mayor Duterte said that his family is also hoping that all the sacrifices of President Duterte will be appreciated by all Filipinos, not just the 16 million who voted for him last year.

He also has a message to the President, saying: “To our father, keep up the good work and may God give you more strength to keep on serving the Filipinos.” (davaotoday.com)
