DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Authorities in Davao del Norte launched a local Task Force to investigate the murder of Davao del Norte-based publisher Dennis Denora, who was gunned down just around 1 p.m. on Thursday, while he was in his car with his driver along the national highway.

Provincial Director PSSupt. Allan Manibog said in a press conference, Wednesday, that the task force is composed of representatives from the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, Armed Forces of the Philippines and other government agencies.

PNP Davao del Norte, in a report, stated that ” there are pieces of evidence gathered which can help with the development of the investigation”.

In an interview, Supt. Allan Padilla, spokesperson of the Task Force Denora, said they are now looking into “five persons of interests.”

The Task Force directed that intelligence community to gather more information on the riding-in-tandem suspects.

“We are doing a background check on the 5 persons of interests and we are working on all angles.”

The PNP also interviewed Denora’s driver and obtained copies of the CCTV footage from where Denora was killed.

Manibog said they are also looking into an unusual person who was seen in the CCTV watching an NBA game during the shooting incident. The victim’s phone was submitted to the authorities for forensic investigation.

Manibog also added that the ballistic report revealed that the gunmen used the same gun in the series of shooting incidents that happened in the province, which, he said, “added to the information we are looking into.”

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security said the results of the investigation, so far, are still sketchy. Undersecretary Jose Joel Sy Egco instructed the Philippine National Police submit an immediate report on the progress of this probe within 24 hours.

Denora is known for his fearless forecasts both in the newspaper and in radio. A reward of 300,000 pesos is offered to anyone who could give information that would solve the killing of Denora. (davaotoday.com)
