Communists can be defeated if Arroyo term is extended, national security adviser says

Short of admitting the failure of the Arroyo administration to stamp out the Communist rebellion, Gonzales told local peace executives there are only two choices left: either craft a really good local government counter-insurgency strategy or extend the term of the President. He said Arroyo wishes to finish the Communist rebellion when her term ends in 2010, but with only two and a half years left in her term, he doubts if the government can achieve it.

This barangay ID card, which contains the photo and personal information (such as address, blood type, height, SSS, TIN and contact numbers) of the holder is already being distributed in the city barangays of Catalunan Grande and Wilfredo Aquino. The cards issued to residents include the photo of Paolo Duterte, the president of the Association of Barangay Councils and son of the city mayor. Kadamay, the urban-poor group, urged the young Duterte to recall the ID and stop the implementation of the barangay ID system, saying that it raises privacy concerns and violates civil liberties.
