The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today accused Romanian President Traian Basescu of ?abusive and offensive behaviour? after he snatched a reporter?s mobile telephone and used sexist and racist language in response to her questions.

In southern Thailand, Time photographer wounded

New York, May 22, 2007?A freelance photographer on assignment for Time magazine in insurgency-hit southern Thailand was injured in a bomb blast today, according to news reports. Australian Philip Blenkinsop was among seven people injured by the improvised explosive device, which detonated in Yala province.

OVERVIEW

South East Maluku (Maluku Tenggara, commonly abbreviated Malra), a district in a remote corner of the Indonesian archipelago, is about to be divided in two, and many residents are worried about the possibility of conflict. Attention by provincial and national officials to latent communal tensions, equitable distribution of development funds and even-handed prosecution of corruption, as well as dissemination by neutral parties of information about the division, would help ensure that all remains peaceful.
