IFJ Condemns Conviction of Journalists, Publishing Houses in Ethiopia

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today condemned the conviction of four journalists and three publishing houses in Ethiopia on charges they attempted to ?dismantle the constitutional system? after they published articles about the anti-government riots in November 2005 that came after elections in the country six months earlier.

Philippines: Cabinet revamp won?t solve political crisis

MANILA — The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan today belittled the upcoming cabinet revamp after President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo asked for the courtesy resignations of her cabinet secretaries and the heads of Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs).

MANILA — Genuine Opposition senatorial candidate Aquilino ?Koko? Pimentel III today filed electoral sabotage charges against provincial election supervisors Lilia Radam of South Cotabato and Yogie Martizar of North Cotabato for tampering and padding the votes of certain Team Unity senatorial candidates in the provincial certificates of canvass (COC) in flagrant violation of election laws.

Mt. Tipolog occupants hail CBFMA endorsement of dads, tribal council

DAVAO CITY — Forest occupants of Mt. Tipolog in Barangay Tawan-Tawan, Baguio District hailed the endorsement of the city council of their application for a community-based forest management agreement (CBFMA).

The forest occupants, who comprise the Mt. Tipolog Bantay Kinaiyahan Farmers Association, also got the backing of the tribal council of Tawan-Tawan.
