Nothing to celebrate for 100 years of a colonial, rubberstamp Congress

Commentary | That the House leadership traces its roots to the US-created Philippine Assembly of 1907 and not to the first Malolos Congress of 1898 is a testament to the colonial mindset that has characterized the institution for the last century. From 1907 till this day, Congress's role has been to protect the narrow foreign and elite interests. Thus, it is one of the biggest hindrances to social reform and political modernization.

Hundreds join march to support Filipino nurses in New York

NEW YORK — The Filipino health workers campaigning for justice known as the Sentosa 27++ marched down the Philippine Independence Day Parade along Madison Avenue last Sunday in a colorful hundreds-strong contingent of Filipino families well-received by loud applause by parade watchers from the sidewalks.

Vote padding in Kalinga and Zamboanga del Sur: Comelec execs face electoral sabotage raps

MANILA — Partylist groups Bayan Muna, Kabataan, Anakpawis, Gabriela and Suara Bangsamoro, filed two more cases of electoral sabotage against the provincial canvassers of Kalinga and Zamboanga del Sur for vote shaving and vote padding respectively on June 6.
