Philippines top choice among US companies for finance, BPO services

MANILA ? Consul General Cecilia Rebong of the Philippine Consulate General in New York, USA reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that a capital markets analyst has said that the Philippines is the top choice among a growing number of major U.S. companies for finance, technology, telecommunications and consumer products, and accounting business process outsourcing (BPO) services.

Latvia: Celebrating rights — fighting prejudice

On 3 June, Amnesty International members from all over Europe will participate in Riga Pride march in solidarity with Latvian lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) people, who are facing widespread hostility and discrimination. Amnesty International calls on the Latvian authorities to ensure that the Pride march will receive adequate police protection, and to exercise their leadership to promote respect for diversity, not foster a climate of intolerance.

2 farmers killed, 6 wounded in Negros hacienda violence

Two farmer-beneficiaries were killed and six others were wounded when security guards of former landowner Roberto Cuenca fired on some 100 farmer-beneficiaries who tried to cultivate their land this morning in Hacienda Velez-Malaga in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

Court allows Beltran to attend last session days of 13th Congress

MANILA — Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda granted Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran’s motion for temporary release so he (Beltran) can attend the final closing session of the 13th Congress from June 4 to June 7, 2007. The said motion was filed by Beltran’s lwayers Atty. Romeo Capulong and Atty. Rachel Pastores Wednesday last week.
