Philippines: Arroyo inaugurates 2 new flagship projects in Bohol

JAGNA, Bohol–President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated this morning two newly-completed flagship projects in Bohol province which are designed to spur economic development in the countryside, specifically in Central Visayas or Region VII.

Upon arrival at about 10 a.m. at the Jagna Elementary School oval and after a short meeting with local government officials here, the President led the ribbon cutting and unveiling of the project marker of the P60.4?million Jagna Port expansion project.

Arroyo vows more investments to boost Philippines’s global competitiveness

JAGNA, Bohol, Philippines — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo vowed today that her administration would increase its investments in human and physical infrastructure in a move to sustain the country?s economic gains and further boost its global competitiveness.

In her brief message after she inaugurated the P 60.4-million Jagna Port Expansion Project and the P1.8-billion Bohol Circumferential Road Improvement Project (BCRIP) Phase 2, the President said the government could now invest more on infrastructure projects with the availability of new revenues as a result of the tough economic and fiscal reforms she implemented.

Philippines: Pullout of troops a tactical victory over AFP — Bayan

MANILA, Philippines — The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan hailed as a ?tactical victory? the order of AFP chief of staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon to pull out troops deployed in Metro Manila.

?We have gained a short term victory. This is the result of pressure from various groups which include militant organizations as well as church and human rights institutions. The pull out should be permanent,? said Bayan secretary general Renato M. Reyes, Jr.

Philippines: Retired colonel challenges Esperon, AFP top brass — ‘All right, sir?’

Below is a letter addressed to AFP chief of staff Hermogenes Esperon and the military top brass:

The recent absentee voters? exercise in the Armed Forces of the Philippines is an added unhappy revelation to me, a retired officer and graduate of the Philippine Military Academy.

Information reportedly given by soldiers from different areas in the country claim that they were supervised by their commanders and ordered to vote straight Team Unity and for party list Bantay of retired general Palparan. The soldiers come from Tarlac, from Samar, and from Davao. Personally, I also have my own informant confirming the same. Although out of the service, I still have a few soldiers in the active service who maintain contact with me.

Philippines: JIL endorsement a big boost to Koko Pimentel

MANILA, Philippines — The senatorial candidacy of Genuine Opposition bet Aquilino Pimentel III received another big push when he was endorsed by the Jesus is the Lord (JIL) evangelical group.

The JIL, the biggest congregation within the Philippines Jesus Movement, recommended Pimentel and five other GO senatorial contenders to its estimated five million members of voting age, after determining that they possess the attributes of competent leadership and live up to the moral standards that the group expect from those seeking public office.
