Maasim, Sarangani Province, Philippines –This third class municipality in the province of Sarangani in Southern Mindanao is home to some 39,000 Christians, Muslims and B?laans. About 90% (46,600 hectares out of the total land area of 51,107 hectares) of Maasim?s land area is forestlands, but only about 2,000 hectares remain forested.

Philippines: Oplan Mercury Rising should be thwarted at all costs, says Beltan

MANILA — Anakpawis Representative and political detainee Crispin Beltran today said that the charge made by retired generals that there is a government-orchestrated plan to manipulate the May 14 elections and swing the votes in favor of Team Unity deserves not only the Commission on Election’s attention but the rest of the Filipino people as well. He said that Malacanang is risking another people’s rising if it pushes ahead with its plans for fraud.

139 abused workers in Lebanon return home to Philippines

MANILA ? Charg? d’Affaires, a.i. (CDA) Mariano A. Dumia of the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon reported to the Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo that the Embassy?s overcrowded Welfare Center has emptied out as 139 Filipino workers, some of whom had been in the Center for as long as ten months, are scheduled to arrive in Manila at 2:45 p.m. today.
