MANILA — The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the ANAKPAWIS party list group condemned the latest attack on one of its leader in Central Luzon by forces of the military late last night as armed men looking for Ka Joseph Canlas, chairman of the ALyansa ng Magbubukid ng Gitnang Luzon (AMGL), a regional chapter of KMP and ANAKPAWIS-CL coordinator forcibly entered his home in Barangay Balite, Arayat, Pampanga..

Residents from Davao’s 3rd District Felt Insulted by Council Bets

DAVAO CITY — Some 600 residents of Davao City?s third district who gathered for the Green Vote 2007 Candidates Forum in Calinan Thursday afternoon felt insulted when the candidates who attended the event left them for another sortie barely halfway through the activity.

Barangay Tawan-Tawan Kagawad Danny Gumapac was emotional when he aired his dismay over the turn of events and said that the candidates? attitude reflected how they would treat people should they be put into office.

Philippines’s Arroyo Tells Asia Forum: Help Lift Up the Poor

BOAO, China (Via PLDT) — While expressing her bullishness in Asia?s future, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo challenged movers and shakers of the region Saturday “to use every tool available to lift up the poor,” in order to achieve equitable, sustainable growth.

In her keynote speech at the opening plenary session of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) at the main hall of the International Convention Center here, the President called on Asian countries to learn from other nations and create their own sustained path to development.
