Philippines Science High School Accreditation Exam Set on May 2

Each year, the Philippine Science High School admits 240 students in its Diliman Campus, and about 90 students in its Southern Mindanao, Ilocos Region, Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Mindanao campuses to its freshmen year.

On its second year a limited number of scholarship slots become vacant due to failure to meet the needed academic requirements and willful abandonment of scholarship grant.

Fitness buffs? ?Summer Escapade? in Igacos

SURROUNDED by the neighboring Gulf cities and provinces, the Island Garden City of Samal or Igacos has become the natural idyllic ground for summer adventure vacationers wanting to escape boredom and the scorching sun downtown.

Once called by its own corporate identity as Samal, the island was all alone by itself in the 50’s and 60’s or even earlier when Davao City had the whole length and breadth of what was once the blue, clean and inviting waters of Times Beach and the nearby Talomo. With all the so-called informal settlers invading our shorelines, city residents had left no choice but to go island-hopping in places where the sand is light and the seas are clear.

Election 2007: Nearly 500 Villages in Davao Region Vulnerable to Violence

DAVAO CITY — As many as 444 barangays (villages) in the Southern Mindanao region have been classified as among so-called “areas of immediate concern” this election season.

The police in the region reported 38 percent of the villages in Southern Mindanao, including those in three cities and 44 municipalities, are affected by armed and election-related threats.

Youths Constitute 30% of Voters in Philippines

DAVAO CITY — Up to 30 percent of voters in the forthcoming May 14 elections will come from the youth sector, according to the second issue of the State of the Philippine Population Report (SPPR).

Commission on Population (Popcom) XI Director Maduh Damsani said parents and elders should prepare the youths to make good choices.
