Philippines: Bird Flu Is a Children?s Concern, Says Unicef

DAVAO CITY — Bird Flu is a children?s concern, which has prompted the United Nations Children?s Fund to join the information drive to keep the Philippines free from the pandemic and save the Filipino children.

Nilo Yacat, an information officer from UNICEF Philippines in a seminar workshop with Philippine Information Agency (PIA) information officers, bared the extent of harm that the Avian Influenza (AI) had done to children population.

He said one-half of the reported cases and one-third of the reported deaths worldwide due to AI, were children.

Mining Firms in Philippines Yield to Communists’ Demands

DAVAO CITY — A report received by Mining and Geosciences Board regional director Ed Arreza confirmed that mining firms have been yielding to the demands of rebel groups.

He bared this during the Kapehan sa Dabaw yesterday after a high-ranking military official divulged that elements of the New People?s Army have been milking the coffers of these mining companies.

Philippines: Ombudsman Mindanao Warns Officials Vs Indirect Bribery

Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao Humphrey Monteroso warned public officials from doing indirect bribery especially during the election period.

During the Kapehan sa Dabaw held yesterday, Monteroso commented that public officials are not supposed to give sweet promises involving money or projects just to campaign for a candidate or a group of candidates.

Davao City Urged to Update Investment Data

DAVAO CITY — Andre Fournier, trustee of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and prime mover of the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector in the City has urged concerned sectors to update the City?s investment data as to facilitate the queries of potential Information Technology (IT) investors who are eyeing Davao City.

Fournier said there are many investors particularly BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) locators like call centers who are looking at the city?s potentials, yet they have difficulty in answering the queries of these investors.

Philippines: Vote Wisely, Be Vigilant — Ulama to Muslims

ULAMA League of the Philippines regional chair Mahmoud Adilao called on his brother Muslim to vote wisely, be more vigilant, and help make the country move away from unresolved issues from the past elections.

Chairman Adilao also called on Muslim groups to help government in its effort to fight terrorism and make our community better place to live in.
