Hundreds Demand Action for Truth & Justice for Fely Garcia

New York City, NY ? After ten days since launching the online petition, “Truth and Justice for Domestic Worker Fely Garcia!” over 500 individuals have registered support for the case of a 58-year-old Filpina caregiver who was found dead in her Bronx, NY apartment on March 14. DAMAYAN Migrant Workers Association, a 350-members strong community based grassroots organization led by Filipino migrant domestic workers in New York City, initiated the campaign after members reported about the disturbing death of a fellow domestic worker, Felisa S. Garcia. Ms. Garcia allegedly committed suicide and left letters, one of which stated that she was abused and harassed by her employer in the Bronx.

PANABO CITY — About 50 families composed of more than 300 individuals fled their homes after a military air-strike hit Wednesday morning a banana plantation area in barangay Manay, this city.

About 15 kilometers from the poblacion, Manay was the place where the Philippine Air Force OV-10 planes dropped bombs at a banana farm where New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were seen hiding after their successful raid of a jail armory last April 8.

Davao Religious Groups Intensity Elections Info Drive

DAVAO CITY — Three religious groups are joining forces to institutionalize political education which they hope would result in a clean, orderly and peaceful elections.

Imams, pastors, priests in Davao city recently convened to organize a forum among Muslims, Protestants and Catholic Christians and set up a citizens? Information, Consultation and Action Center (ICAC).

Philippines: Korean Firm to Install, Supply Mindanao Substation Expansion Project

The government has awarded a contract to an international company that will install and supply the Mindanao Substation Expansion Project.

In a press statement furnished by National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) corporate communications officer for southeastern Mindanao Milfrance Capulong to the Davao business reporters it stated that contracts had been signed between them and a South Korean company.

Philippines: Davao Groups Urge Voters to Vote Right

DAVAO CITY — While political candidates are back in the campaign trail, several groups have emerged urging electorates to vote right.

During the Club 888 Forum of The Marco Polo Hotel on Wednesday, lawyer Ricky Diola cited the campaign being done by a church-based organization in Cebu City of voting against the candidate.
