Lawyer to elevate jailed Davao broadcaster’s case to UN

We plan to take our case to the United Nations Human Rights Committee and eventually have the libel laws of the country declared a violation of the International Covenant on Civil-Political Rights (ICCPR), said Lex Adonis’s lawyer Harry Roque. Once the UN body makes such declaration, lawyers could ask the Philippine Supreme Court to rule outright that jail terms for libel violates the country’s treaty obligations.
