DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The military is showing its desperation in its move to deflect the attention from its tragic offense of killing and labeling as ?child soldier? the 9-year old Grecil Galacio. This is according to Alphonse Rivera, Spokesperson of SALINLAHI Alliance for Children?s Concerns, one of the organizations that assisted the Galacio family in their case against the military.

Journalists Must Protect Our Freedoms

It is only by standing by your principles as mediamen that you can be called as such. Deviating from it makes you irrelevant.

DAVAO CITY — When I was asked to make a testimonial tonight, one question came to dominate my mind. That question is, after all the years of struggle and idealism about press freedom, what have I contributed towards this aim as a mediaman? This created a vacuum on my innerself which is suddenly filled with more doubt of my ideals if it is really realistic and achievable or just a plain utopia ? and maybe better leave it that way so that the next generation has something to continue. I know there are more worthy experiences of practicing media in the past, all I want is to share my story and thoughts about the my experiences and struggles as a mediaman.

Water Tops Environment Agenda of Davao Bets in First District

DAVAO CITY — The environmental agenda of most of the council candidates from Davao City ?s first district showed their concern for the city?s water quality and supply and the protection of the watersheds, something that brings a spark of hope for environmental groups who have been working intensively for this particular issue.

Of the seven candidates, one of whom is a neophyte, five said they will come up if not strengthen and implement existing laws with legislation that will protect water resources and rehabilitate damaged ones.

Nograles’s Kalahi Using Lumads in ‘Smear Campaign’ Vs Anakpawis, Others

Kalahi, the group of Karlo Nograles, the son of Davao City Rep. Prospero Nograles, has been accused of allegedly using Lumads to discredit Anakpawis and its allied partylist groups, calling these groups, as well Jeppie Ramada, who is running for councilor of the third district under Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s party, of being communists.

Repair of Damaged Davao Bridge to Be Completed in December

DAVAO CITY — The 57-year-old Generoso Bridge I, more known as the Bankerohan Bridge, is scheduled for re-opening to traffic by Christmas.

The bridge was closed to traffic last April 12 because one of its posts collapsed. The bridge was built in 1946 and was opened in 1950. It should should have been replaced in 2000 because its life span is only 50 years, said Dimas Soguilon, director for Southern Mindanao of the Department of Public Works and Highways during a recent guesting in the television program “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa.”
