Davao Groups Chide Banana Growers Over Case Vs City

DAVAO CITY — The Mamayan Ayaw sa Aerial Spraying (Maas) chided the Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association for filing civil charges against the city government over the controversial aerial spraying ordinance.

Dagohoy Magaway, spokesperson of Maas, said the case emanated from the arrogance and inability of PBGEA to respect the wisdom and decision of the city government over a policy that involved lives of the people and the environment.

Marco Polo Hotel Davao Gets Child Labor Free Award

DAVAO CITY — Marco Polo Hotel Davao was awarded ?Child Labor Free? title besting other top companies all over the country. The search was organized by the Employers? Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP).

During the Club 888 business and tourism forum last Wednesday, Marco Polo Hotel general manager Stanley Lao of Davao disclosed that they bested the award against other big multi-national companies around the Philippines like Johnsons & Johnsons and Globe Telecom.

Industrial Peace in Davao Cited

DAVAO CITY — Davao City and Region XI’s industrial peace and zero-strike labor condition manifests strongly the harmony and unity of these two economic sectors in the region, according to former CSC Regional Director Leticia Competente, who now heads the Regional Tri-Partite Industrial Peace Council committee on Labor Education.

Competente, made the comments as the region prepares for the May 1 Labor Day celebration Monday.

Karlo Nograles, the son of Davao City congressman and staunch Arroyo ally Prospero Nograles, is eyeing a seat in Congress through an OFW partylist group. He maintains that it?s merely by chance that he is the son of Prospero and that he does have a soft spot for OFWs even though he?s not one of them. Some people, however, see his running as just part of the alleged plot to field partylist groups said to have links with Malacanang.
