Davao ‘May Be Particular Target’ of Terror Attack

The Australian government has renewed its advisory warning its citizens from traveling to certain parts of the country, particularly in Mindanao and Cebu. The advisory warned that “Davao City may be a particular target” of terrorist attacks.

“The attacks could occur at any time, anywhere in Mindanao, including during the period 9-16 January which includes the Asean and East Asian Summits,” the advisory said. “Davao City may be a particular target.”

2 Davao Journalists, 4 Others Off to Sydney for Seminar on ‘Conflict-Resolution Media’

DAVAO CITY — A team of six Mindanao journalists, two of them from this city, is set to leave for Sydney, Australia, today for a short course on “Conflict-Resolving Media” at the University of Sydney Center for Peace and Conflict Studies.

Comprising the media delegation are Amalia Cabusao, Mindanao Times editor-in-chief; Temujin Ocampo, GMA-Davao TV news anchor; Julie Alipala, Jeoffrey Maitem, of Philippine Daily Inquirer; Edwin Fernandez, DXMS Cotabato station manager; and Allen Estabillo, MindaNews, a leading online news organization in Mindanao.

Ex-Entertainer from Davao Shines as English Teacher in Japan

DAVAO CITY — Sometime in the ?80s, Annie Yanagida went to Japan to work as an entertainer, one of the thousands who go to that country each year to seek greener pasture.

But unlike most Filipina entertainers in Japan, Annie, who graduated from the Holy Cross of Davao College, saw other opportunities. After marrying a Japanese, she put up Annie?s English School, which she has been nurturing for the past 20years.
