Davao drivers and operators demand the scrapping of VAT on oil

According to the Transport of Southern Mindanao for Solidarity, Independence and Nationalism (Transmision) computations, a driver who consumes an average of 30 liters per day loses 747.30 pesos in his day’s income compared to the 2005 level. The one-peso fare hike allows the driver to recover 250 pesos of this lost income, if he maintains the average number of passengers in a day. But he still has to contend with the 497.30 pesos deficit.

Where goes the Durian King?

They call him the Durian King. When truckloads of durians arrive at the fruit stand at Magsaysay Park, the durian trucker no longer bothers unloading the thorny fruits in baskets. All the trucker had to do is throw the fruits at him and he’d catch them with his bare hands.

Davao’s new malls

Two new malls and call centers will soon rise along Bajada in Davao city: Abreeza, a joint venture between Ayala Land Inc. and the Davao-based Antonio Floirendo Corp. (Anflocor), will feature a mall and a call center; while Robinson’s cybergate, still being built near the Davao city Water District, will feature a mall and a call center on its second floor.
