More smuggled red onions enter MisOr port

Despite the series of confiscation of millions worth of red onions coming in as illegal imported agricultural produce at the Mindanao Container Terminal sub-port in Tagoloan town in Misamis Oriental, the smuggling of red onions has continued.
The federation’s reaction came after Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III announced that the government has extended P23.2 billion in subsidies to PCIC over the last 20 years.
According to the Customs in Northern Mindanao in a Facebook post, the onions were burned and buried in a pit inside the destruction facility.
It was reported that “lower-priced but obviously chemically-treated Chinese carrots have flooded the market which alarmed local vegetable farmers.
